Valley West Hospital donation to fox valley older adult services

Valley West Community Hospital presents the first installment of its pledge to Fox Valley Older Adult Services Freedom to Fund. These funds will be used for developing and implementing a computer lab for seniors at Fox Valley Older Adult Services. Currently they only have two older computers in a small room which is not conducive to proper computer training.
“We would like to demystify the process and make computer training and access to computers readily available to area seniors. In order to do this, we need to reconfigure a larger room adjacent to our new Senior Lounge and acquire newer, user-friendly computers, cabling, printers, and peripheral equipment. The funds donated by Valley West will help us get this up and running quickly so that our seniors can benefit from this program,” says Susan Thanepohn, director of Marketing & Grants, Fox Valley Older Adult Services.
Cindy Worsley, FVOAS executive director, said, “Many seniors are unfamiliar with computers since they did not grow up with them nor did they use them in their work lives. They can benefit greatly by learning to use this new technology for daily purposes.”
The lab will help seniors learn how to communicate with healthcare providers, gain access to medical, and insurance, and bank information, to locate, communicate, and share photos with families and friends, and to research genealogy.
Mike Muzzillo, vice president of operations for Valley West, applauds Fox Valley Older Adult Services’ efforts to help seniors to become computer savvy. “What I really like about this program is that it will enhance the wellbeing of our senior citizens, allowing them to stay connected to their families and teaching them how to explore personal interests and conduct business online from the safety and comfort of their homes. The hospital is happy to be in a position to support this project,” Muzzillo said.
