Valley West Community Hospital welcomes new Community Wellness Educator

Valley West Community Hospital is pleased to announce the addition of Cindy Johnston, RN, to the Community Wellness department as the new Community Wellness Educator. Valley West Community Hospital, part of the KishHealth System, offers a variety of special services and healthcare education classes and programs for the community. Johnston brings more than 20 years of nursing experience to position.
A certified school nurse, Johnston received her Associate Degree in Nursing from Waubonsee Community College, and her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from University of Missouri, St. Louis. While doing graduate work at the University of Illinois-Chicago, she discovered her love for wellness education. Prior to her position at Valley West, she worked as a school nurse in the Yorkville school district, educating children through programs about dental care, hygiene, CPR, and puberty education.
As part of her duties at Valley West, Johnston helps plan, coordinate, and teach community education programs including “Cholesterol: Balancing the Numbers,” “Girls Only - Your Changing Body,” “Safe Sitter,” CPR, and First Aid.
“I truly believe in the benefits of wellness education,” Johnston said. “Teaching at Valley West, I can reach a number of communities, and help them learn how to reduce their risk for disease, and achieve overall better health.”
Valley West Community Hospital provides services and programs for all ages. Community Wellness calendars are mailed to communities four times a year, and also available online at www.vwch.org.
