VWCH laboratory accredited by CAP

The VWCH laboratory recently received accreditation from the College of American Pathologist (CAP) following an on site inspection. The CAP accreditation is recognized by the federal government as being equal to or more stringent than the government's own program. CAP is an advocate for high-quality, cost-efficient medical care. "The staff works hard, not only preparing for the inspection but maintaining that level of accuracy, documentation and proficiency, dedicated to serving our patients' needs," said Carmen Hann, Laboratory Manager.
During the CAP accreditation process, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control procedures for the two previous years. CAP inspectors also examine the entire staff’s qualifications, the laboratory’s equipment, facilities, safety program and record, as well as the overall management of the laboratory. This stringent inspection program is designed specifically to ensure the highest standard of care for the laboratory’s patients.
The full-service laboratory includes services in Hematology, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Chemistry, Special Chemistry, Toxicology, Microbiology, Parasitology, Histology, Pathology, Drug Testing, and Blood Bank.
