Dislocated Thumb
Dr. Orest Rywak

One afternoon, Eric, age 16, was at home doing chin ups. His hands slipped off of the bar and he fell down injuring his thumb.

When Eric came into to the Emergency Department at Valley West Community Hospital with his family, he was very distressed. His thumb was badly dislocated, bent back completely at a right angle. Dr. Orest Rywak examined Eric’s thumb, gave him some pain medication, and obtained an x-ray.

After determining on the x-ray that Eric’s thumb was not fractured, he gave him a little more medicine for pain, and put Eric’s thumb back in place. Eric was very relieved that his thumb could be fixed so easily, as was his family.
